LOSS OF RADIANCE
WHAT + HOW
Think of light reflecting off a still lake at the break of dawn. How well light bounces off the surface of your skin will determine your degree of radiance. Along with good nutrition and exercise, creating a luminous appearance is all about adding a good moisturizer, and ensuring you’re getting the right amount of exfoliation.
Women tend to notice a loss of radiance earlier in life than men do. It becomes apparent to women as they realize that their makeup doesn’t look as fresh and their foundation begins to fade within a couple hours. Their makeup is being absorbed into the accumulated dead skin cells. Skin looks dull and creates other havoc when dead skin cells build up on its surface. The buildup gives a very tired and unhealthy appearance to skin. When skin is in top form, fair skin should have a rosy gleam to it and darker complexions should have a luminosity. This is a sign that skin is getting adequate blood flow with a healthy rapid turnover of surface cells. But as we age, a surface buildup of dead cells inhibits the natural glow we see from a healthy circulation. What happens?
Up to the age of 14, our skin exfoliates naturally every 14 days. The quick rate of renewal leaves children with a healthy-looking glowing complexion. However, with the passage of time, the rate of natural exfoliation slows down. By the age of 25, the rate of exfoliation doubles to 28 days, and after that it can even increase to a whopping 75 days. The resulting buildup of dead cells leaves skin looking like flat paint rather than a glowing surface. When dead skin cells build up on the surface of skin, they scatter light, making skin appear lifeless and dull. No matter what our age, deep in the epidermis, in the basal layer, new cells are being generated every day. As a cell is born, soon there is another cell born underneath it, and one more after that and another and another. During their forced journey to skin surface, they undergo a lot of changes. One of those changes is to become filled with a hardened substance called keratin. Eventually these keratin filled, toughened cells called corneocytes become embedded in a glue like matrix. This matrix sticks the cells together similar to bricks and mortar. As a result your skin cells become an effective, tough barrier between you and the environment.

TREATMENT
As new cells are continually being born the outermost cells need to be sloughed off. Otherwise our skin would be inches thick. Researchers have discovered that our skin generates specific enzymes that helps the surface cells separate from each other in a process called desquamation. The catch is that these enzymes need hydration to thrive and be effective. As our oil production slows with age.
The best treatment for loss of radiance is the use of an exceptional exfoliator. BEAUTYPROOF’s Vita C Smoothing Grains, when added to your cleanser, effectively yet gently dislodge dead cells and impurities while simultaneously infusing skin with vitamin C. The smoothing grains are in a separate container so that you are able to customize your exfoliation treatments. Exfoliation should never be a one size fits all treatment. As the climate changes, emotional stress and lifestyle habits alter, so does your need for differing exfoliation intensity.
Other options that immediately increase radiance is our Perfect Peel Bio-Enzyme Mask. It contains not one but five unique natural enzymes, each working in tandem to deliver instantly glowing, radiant skin! Just apply the size of a nickle and let it remain on your skin for about 10 to 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Pat your skin dry, apply toner and moisturizer.
